Web and mobile apps for verifying patients' dental insurance, built from zero to one for BiOrbit, LLC.
Overview
Dental Insurance Verification, or DIV, is the second product we built for BiOrbit, LLC, alongside TalentCiti. It does what the name says: it helps dental practices verify a patient's insurance coverage before treatment. Getting this wrong means denied claims and awkward conversations at the front desk, so the product had to be dependable and quick to use in a busy practice.
The Challenge
Insurance verification is tedious, detail-heavy work that front-desk staff do many times a day, usually across phone calls and portals. The product needed to make that work faster and more reliable, run on the web and on mobile, and be built from scratch with no existing codebase to start from.
Our Role
We managed the product from zero to one: product scoping, architecture, engineering, and releases. We built the web app in React and the mobile app in React Native, with Firebase as the backend for authentication and data, so practices could verify coverage from a desk or a phone against the same records.
Achievements
Built for the front desk
The people using DIV are busy and interrupted constantly. We designed the flows around that reality: capture the patient's details, run the verification, and see a clear answer, with as few steps as possible between them.
One backend, two apps
Firebase let the React web app and the React Native mobile app share authentication and data, so a verification started on one device could be picked up on another, and there was no separate server to deploy or maintain.
Owning the full product, end to end
We carried the whole product: every architecture decision, every feature, every release. It's the same end-to-end ownership we bring to partner work today, with AI now speeding up the design and engineering behind it.
